The decedents of world-famous Spanish artist Pablo Picasso are auctioning off a collection of more than 1,000 NFTs featuring an unseen ceramic work in a merger between the worlds of fine arts and cryptocurrency.

Marina Picasso and her son Florian Picasso are hoping to jump on the sweeping wave of enthusiasm towards NFTs which have seen the works of lesser-known artists sell for millions.

The exact features of the ceramic piece are yet to be completely revealed however Ms Picasso described the work in general terms: “It’s a work that represents a face, and it’s very expressive,” she said. “It’s joyful, happy. It’s one of those objects that have been part of our life, our intimate lives—my life with my children.”

Picasso’s great grandson, Florian Picasso, has suggested that this release is merely the first of many NFTs to be extracted from the family-owned collection.

“We are trying to build a bridge between the NFT world and the fine art world,” he said in a recent interview. “I think it fits within Picasso’s legacies because we are paying tribute to him and his way of working which was being creative.”
