Bored Ape Yacht Club up over $1 billion in traded volume on OpenSea
The Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC), has reached around US$1.1 billion in sales on OpenSea’s marketplace, according to the site’s statistics, making it the third NFT collection to reach the milestone.
It currently sits in second place for volume traded on OpenSea behind CryptoPunks, which hit the same US$1 billion milestone in late August 2021. BAYC still has a while to go if it wants to claim the top spot, as CryptoPunks now sits at around 775,000 ETH, or US$2.9 billion, in trades at the time of writing.
The play-to-earn game Axie Infinity was the first ever NFT project to hit US$1 billion, doing so in early August 2021.
There are 10,000 Bored Apes distributed across 6,100 owners, including notable celebrities and athletes. Most recently, rap artist Eminem purchased Bored Ape #9055 for over US$460,000. Other owners include big names such as Snoop Dogg, Post Malone, Jimmy Fallon, and the billionaire investor from “Shark Tank”, Mark Cuban.
BAYC has also grown as a partner for launching other NFT projects. Last month, Adidas launched a collection of NFTs in collaboration with the Bored Ape Yacht Club, along with Gmoney, and Punks, called “Into the Metaverse”.
In the 20 days since launching, Adidas has already seen nearly US$60 million in traded volume, or 15,000 ETH, and has earned a spot in the top 50 NFT collections on OpenSea. Adidas is one of the first “household name” brands to enter the top 50 NFT collections, being a company known for things outside of NFTs as well.
